Context

This is my personal website, so a brief introduction: I was born in the early eighties in rural South-West England, was educated first in the state system and then at a private school, before attending university for a year. University wasn’t working out for me at that time, so I didn’t return for a second year. In 2003 I moved to Montreal, Canada and married that summer. In 2008 my wife and I moved to Toronto, where, shortly after, I became a Canadian citizen.

I intend to post my thoughts on a variety of topics – news, politics, books, music, films, video games, philosophy, psychology, pet peeves – whatever issue is tickling my mind at a particular time. Naturally, what I post is for anyone to read, but primarily I want somewhere to record my thoughts and to help me organise them into something gradually more coherent. If someone else wants to read them, maybe they’ll learn something and if they comment, maybe I’ll learn something too.

The name of the site refers to both logic errors in computer programming and logical fallacies in rhetoric. I don’t profess to be as familiar as I would like with either field, but I have had a reasonable amount of experience with programming languages from an early age and encourage the critical deployment of knowledge of rhetorical fallacies in all aspects of life. The name also seemed ideal for someone who considers themself a logical thinker, with a habit of pointing out things that don’t appear, personally, to make sense.

Ultimately, though, logicalerror is just a name. I liked it and it was available… voila!
